Founded in 1904, Black River Falls Municipal Utilities (BRFMU) is a municipally owned and operated electric, water, and sewer utility, serving more than 2,700 customers in Black River Falls, Wisconsin. We strive to provide low-cost, reliable service with a community-focused, personal touch. We are your friends and neighbors who share your values and understand your needs.
While a lot has changed over the past century, the focus of the utility has not. Today, we still offer our customers competitive electric rates - rates significantly lower than those in territories that are served by most investor-owned utilities. And, since we live and work in the community, we provide reliable energy with superior customer service. BRFMU also owns and operates a hydroelectric dam with a generation capacity of 1.47 MW, enough to power 10-12% of our customer's needs.
BRFMU also provides our customers with clean, high-quality water that meets or exceeds all state and federal standards. Our water quality and capacity are monitored every day by well-trained system operators.
Lastly, BRFMU operates the WWTP, which provides wastewater treatment for all of BRFMU customers and the Brockway Sanitary District. The City Street Department manages and maintains the sanitary sewer collection system.
